What all can laser do for your skin??

Laser is a relatively new technology in the treatment of various skin problems. Prior to laser, often surgical or other more invasive methods were used to treat the skin, leading to long recovery periods or significant risks to the skin. Although laser is simply a specific and focused single wavelength of light, it is able to induce powerful changes and improvements in the skin with relatively low risk and downtime.

Lasers produce intense monochromatic light, light that is limited to a very a narrow band of wavelengths. This light has no effect on some substances, and high-intensity effects on others. One setting might heat hemoglobin but have no effect on neighboring skin cells. Another setting might “melt” the melanin that causes deep pigmentation on the skin. A third might vaporize tattoo ink. Dermatologists use lasers to destroy specific substances at specific depths in the skin.

There are various skin issues that can be treated with laser. These will be addressed individually;

Hyperpigmentation is a common skin problem that causes certain areas or parts of the skin to become darker. Usually it is a harmless problem which is caused by excessive amounts of pigment, such as melanin in the skin. Hyperpigmentation affects both men and women, and is characterized by areas of darker skin. While it is most common in middle and later life, hyperpigmentation can also occur in younger people.

Severe Pigmentation scars do not cure with medicines. It depends on the pigmentation. Laser treatment is a technique for laser resurfacing. Laser resurfacing method not only for acne scars but also this treatment includes better and younger looking skin. Laser treatment for pigmentation includes some light that is passed over the deep layers of the skin. The result of the passing of light concentrates on deeper skin cells that are new. Lasers work specifically to target the pigmentation problem independently of the normal skin, as there is usually more melanin in the area to be treated than the normal skin. Hence the attraction of the laser to this problem area is greater, allowing it to target it specifically, with minimal disruption to the surrounding normal skin.

Laser tattoo removal works by accelerating the natural fading process that happens to tattoos over time. Because the ink trapped in your skin is a foreign substance, your body’s immune system is constantly trying to remove it. As the laser’s light is absorbed by the tattoo ink, the particles instantly shatter into tiny fragments. By breaking the ink into small fragments, we’re able to make it easier for your body to naturally eliminate it. Lasers are the only way to break down tattoo ink without harming the surrounding skin. They’re the only treatment that can penetrate deep enough into the skin to harm the ink without causing damage to the skin itself.

Laser hair removal works by targeting the pigment of hair, and deliver heat to the hair without affecting the surrounding tissues. The light from the laser will be absorbed by the pigment of hair, causing the hair to become dormant, and eventually, termination of the hair growth. Laser Hair Removal is a restorative treatment for permanent hair removal and disposing of undesirable facial or body hairs. The treatment includes the utilization of beats of laser light on hair follicles. Lasers expel hair through a procedure of particular photo thermolysis in which vitality as optical wavelengths is conveyed into the hair shaft and pigmented follicular epithelium. No technology today can remove hair in just one treatment. Patients must undergo multiple treatments to achieve a hair-free skin. It’s because each hair is in different stages of hair growth.

Laser skin tightening is a minimally invasive, non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source (a laser) to tighten skin by heating the collagen under the skin’s surface, causing the skin to contract (tighten). Facial skin tightening is noticeable immediately after the treatment, and there is no downtime, making this an increasingly popular procedure. Additional skin tightening occurs over the next few months, but optimal results usually require two or three treatments about a month apart. Laser skin tightening is an approved method for the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. While laser skin tightening results may not be as dramatic as those of a face lift, patients enjoy moderate results with no downtime. An added benefit of laser skin tightening is that it is safe and effective for restoring a more firm, youthful appearance to skin all over the body.

It helps to understand how acne scars are formed in order to make an informed decision for yourself. Acne scars are made of the same collagen fibres that are found throughout your skin. However, these fibres are arranged in a thick configuration. Lasers basically apply heat to the dermis under the surface of your skin. And this causes specialized cells to produce normal collagen fibres which gradually override the acne scar tissue. Multiple treatments are needed for this to be achieved effectively. Different lasers also use different wavelengths which perform specific objectives. Some wavelengths are safer for darker skin types. And some laser systems are better for milder cases. Others, are effective for more severe instances of scarring.

Acne happens when pores in the skin fill up with dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria. They then eventually become inflamed and burst. When this happens deep within the skin, all that infected gunk spreads among the deeper tissues, resulting in even bigger lesions. To reduce acne and from developing acne scars at a very early stage using Intense pulse light (Zigma IPL) and clearing the face along with rejuvenating the skin and giving it a glow.
