Laser skin tightening is a minimally invasive, non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source (a laser) to tighten skin by heating the collagen under the skin’s surface, causing the skin to contract (tighten).
After the age of 30, we slow down our production of collagen and elastin—the two proteins that help our skin stay firm, plump, and toned. What non-surgical skin tightening with lasers does is target energy in the layers of the skin to stimulate that collagen and elastin production, which will gradually improve the texture and tone. Facial skin tightening is noticeable immediately after the treatment, and there is no downtime, making this an increasingly popular procedure. Additional skin tightening occurs over the next few months, but optimal results usually require two or three treatments about a month apart.
The benefits of laser skin tightening include:
Laser skin tightening is an approved method for the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. While laser skin tightening results may not be as dramatic as those of a face lift, patients enjoy moderate results with no downtime. An added benefit of laser skin tightening is it is safe and effective for restoring a more firm, youthful appearance to skin all over the body
lasers can treat loose skin on the face, neck (and chin), décolletage, stomach, thighs, and basically anywhere else on the body you want to improve. Not all lasers are made equal though—what might work magic on the butt isn't going to be the best option for tightening your under eye area.
Depending on your skin quality and the area being treated, your surgeon may choose one of these treatments.
Before the procedure begins the area to be treated is cleaned of makeup and skin lotions. Some treatments require a thin coat of ultrasound gel during treatment. Oral or intravenous pain medication may be required depending upon device, treatment area, and your individual needs.
In advance of your procedure, your surgeon will ask you to:
Stop smoking for at least six weeks before undergoing treatment to promote better healing
Avoid taking aspirin, certain anti-inflammatory drugs, and some herbal medications can cause increased bleeding
Discontinue any topical skin products that might increase your risk of complications from treatment
Regardless of the type of treatment to be performed, hydration is very important before and after surgery for safe recovery.
Nonsurgical skin tightening procedures have minimal recovery and you are usually able to resume full activity immediately after treatment. Our surgeon will discuss whether there are any immediate restrictions on your activities and if so, how long it will be before you can return to your normal level of activity. After treatment, you and your caregiver will receive detailed instructions about the care of the treated areas
